History
This monograph does not claim to be a rigid historical study, but rather a recollection of a series of events handed down by oral tradition and faithfully recounted by eyewitnesses from the early days of St-Mathieu parish, including Mrs. Elsie Butler-Lacroix, Célima Diotte-Guindon, twins René and Ubald Gendron, Ovila Éthier, Délisca St-Jean-Goyer, Hervé St-Jean ; documents, notes, memories, facts written and/or preserved by Anna Carrière-Gendron, Hazel Watson, John Finnamore Cooper. Social, educational and religious events are recounted from the community’s beginnings in the 1870s.
